Today visitors can learn about it on Kiix̣in cultural tours.
Huu-ay-aht is one of five Nations that signed the Maa-nulth Treaty, which came into effect on April 1, 2011. As a self-governing Nation, Huu-ay-aht fully owns and governs more than 8,200 hectares of land. Hereditary chiefs (Ḥaw̓iiḥ) work alongside the elected council, and citizens take part in decisions through People's Assemblies. The Nation is a member of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council and the Maa-nulth Treaty Society.
